A 75-year-old man has been confirmed dead and three others injured during ethnic clashes in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the clashes took place between two ethnic groups in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region.
The statement released by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, on August 25, 2025, says tensions escalated between members of the Sissala and Dagaati communities on August 21. It says the violence left three persons injured.
According to the statement, the three victims who got injured on August 21 were rushed to health facilities in Lambussie and Nandom where they are receiving treatment.
It added that the situation took a deadly turn on August 23 when a group of armed men from a nearby community attacked the Sene-Dindee community, saying gunshots were fired indiscriminately, and property was destroyed, including a house, three motorbikes, and a tricycle.
According to the statement, it was during the attack on the Sene-Dindee community that the 75-year-old man was killed, adding that his body has been deposited at St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom for preservation and autopsy.
