Ghanaian Mother and 2-Year-Old Son Die In Suspected Poisoning Case, 2 Others In Critical Condition

A Ghanaian mother and her two-year-old son have died in a suspected food poisoning case. The deceased woman is said to be a food vendor.

Two other family members are reportedly in critical condition as a result of the suspected food poisoning in Kwahu Atibie, in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The deceased woman, identified as Taanii, who sold fufu in Mpraeso, and her family, were discovered unresponsive in their home, prompting a police investigation.

The family’s landlord, Osarfo Wiafe Emmanuel, reported the incident to the police, who described the family’s last known activities as routine.

Osarfo Wiafe Emmanuel told journalists that “A day before the incident, the family went to sell the food and came back peacefully and [we] do not know what happened in the night. In the morning, they couldn’t wake up.”

Reports say the bodies of the mother and son have been sent to the mortuary at the Kwahu Government Hospital, Atibie, where they await a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Simultaneously, the two other family members, who were found in critical condition, are receiving intensive medical care at the same hospital.
