A Ghanaian immigration officer has allegedly been killed at a checkpoint at Gbintri in the North East Region of Ghana.
The attack, on Friday, October 3, 2025, also left one person injured, Africa Publicity has gathered.
Reports say the attack took place around 1:30 a.m. Unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire on officers stationed at the checkpoint.
According to reports, Rafiq Mohammed, an Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICOII) died on the spot from gunshot wounds.
Another immigration officer also an AICOII, Oppong Daniel was injured during the attack. Reports say he sustained serious injuries in the jaw and back and is receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Police investigating the incident have reportedly recovered AK-47 shell casings at the scene along with a GIS service raffle with registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646.
