Renowned Ghanaian actress and producer Yvonne Ossei has been honored with the prestigious British Council Study UK Alumni Award for Culture and Creativity 2025. The global award recognizes international leaders who have leveraged their UK education to make significant contributions to their communities and industries.
Yvonne, who has built an impressive career in theatre, TV, and film across both the UK and Ghana, proudly accepted the award, expressing gratitude for the recognition. “I do not take the win for granted as there was a group of very worthy candidates that made it to the finalist stages,” she said.
This latest accolade adds to Yvonne’s growing list of achievements, including being the first African woman to win the British Urban Film Festival Award and a two-time recipient of the Ghana Prominent Awards. She described it as a privilege to represent Ghana on such a global stage and was touched to receive a personal congratulatory message from officials at her alma mater, Queen Mary University of London, during the award ceremony at the British Council auditorium.
Beyond her on-screen success, Yvonne has made a lasting impact through thought-provoking creative projects. She wrote and produced Face Up, a fictional stage play addressing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), which was performed at Channel 4 Studios UK, toured UK theatres—including the Pleasance—and was later adapted for Ghanaian television, airing on GBC/GTV. She also created Celebrity TV Couch (Ghana) and previously worked as a senior manager in the UK government before fully dedicating herself to the arts.
Yvonne remains committed to shaping the global film and television industries, with a particular focus on Ghana. She extended her gratitude to the British Council, Queen Mary University of London, and all who have supported her creative work.
