A police intelligence-led operation to foil a planned robbery along the Anwiankwanta–Obuasi road ended in a deadly exchange of gunfire on Christmas Eve, leaving three suspected members of a violent robbery gang dead.
The shootout occurred on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in a forested area between Anwiankwanta and the Jacobu Junction in the Ashanti Region.

Acting on specific intelligence that a five-man gang had regrouped in the bush to launch an attack on motorists, the Ashanti Regional Police Command deployed four service vehicles to the location.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the five armed men. According to the police situational report, the suspects immediately opened fire in an attempt to escape through the thicket. The police returned fire, fatally wounding three of the suspects. The remaining two members of the gang managed to flee and are currently being pursued, with authorities suspecting they may have sustained gunshot injuries.

- Seidu Issah, 29
- Musah Yakubu, 35
- Yahaya Munkaila (also known as Tijani), 25
The police identified the deceased as wanted persons linked to multiple violent robberies and homicide cases across the Manso, Jacobu, and Anwiankwanta enclaves. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue pending an autopsy.

- Two pump-action shotguns (each loaded with six rounds).
- One unmarked pistol.
- 25 live cartridges found in a sack.
- Six spent shells.
Ongoing Manhunt
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing the remaining accomplices to justice.
