Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete the abandoned Western Regional Hospital project in Apemanim within the next 18 months. The 250-bed facility, which was left unfinished in 2023, is a key part of his broader development vision for the region and Ghana.
“As part of my working visit to the Western Region today, I visited Apemanim to inspect the abandoned site for the new Western Regional Hospital,” President Mahama said after his visit to the Region and hospital site on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

He added that “The 250-bed hospital was abandoned in 2023. In line with my campaign promise and my #ResettingGhana agenda, this government will complete the hospital project in the next 18 months.”

Expressing confidence in the project’s progress, he added, “I am optimistic that my next visit will be the commissioning of the project.”
President Mahama also reaffirmed his commitment to continuity in governance. “During the campaign, I promised to continue all projects and I meant my words,” he stated.
Addressing infrastructure concerns in the district, he acknowledged the poor condition of roads and announced plans under his administration’s #BigPushProjects initiative. “I am aware of the sorry state of roads within the district and I can assure you that under the #BigPushProjects, no region will be left out from the construction of major arterial roads and the District Road Improvement Programe (DRIP) which is targeting 10km of roads each year for the next 5 years to improve your road network.”
