Ghana: Police Uncover Alleged Human Trafficking and Cybercrime Ring in Pokuase, 22 Arrested

Security operatives have arrested 22 suspects in Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region after dismantling what police describe as a coordinated human trafficking and cybercrime network operating under the guise of an internet fraud hub.

The intelligence-led operation took place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, and was spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, with support from combat and surveillance units of the Ghana Police Service.

What police found

According to authorities, officers raided a key location at Pokuase-Afiaman after receiving credible intelligence linking the site to organised cybercrime and human trafficking activities. At the premises, suspects were found operating multiple computer systems believed to be connected to international internet fraud schemes, commonly referred to as “Yahoo” operations.

Police described the location as a fully functional cyber fraud base, with evidence suggesting sustained and coordinated criminal activity.

Signs of an organised network

Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate operated with a clear internal structure. Certain members were allegedly assigned supervisory roles, enforcing control and discipline over others, including individuals believed to have been trafficked into the operation.

Investigators say this points to a well-organised criminal enterprise rather than isolated cybercrime activity.

Possible victims among suspects

Police also revealed that some of the younger individuals arrested may themselves be victims of coercion and forced labour. Authorities say this aspect of the case is being carefully reviewed, as it raises serious concerns about exploitation and human rights abuses within the network.

Ongoing investigations

All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Police say further arrests and charges are possible as they work to identify recruiters, financiers, and international links connected to the alleged syndicate.

The operation forms part of broader national efforts to clamp down on cybercrime, human trafficking, and organised criminal networks across the country.
