Ghana: Police Seize Major Tramadol Consignment, Six Arrested

The North East Regional Police Command, in a joint operation with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has successfully intercepted a large consignment of Tramadol Hydrochloride, leading to the arrest of six individuals. The raid, which took place on September 18, 2025, in Gbintri near Nalerigu, resulted in the seizure of 1,195 boxes of the restricted pharmaceutical drug, commonly known as “Red.”

The operation uncovered the illicit drugs hidden within a truck with registration number GR 1712-16. Another vehicle, AW 4417-14, was also intercepted as part of the coordinated effort. The police report indicates that the trucks originated from Sankase, Togo, and were en route to Gbintri.

The suspects in custody have been identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik. During interrogation, they confessed that the consignment was meant for Moses Ayorik, who was to arrange its further transport to another individual in Gushegu.

In a statement, Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabiik Anmain reaffirmed the commitment of the North East Regional Police Command to combatting the illegal drug trade. The six individuals are currently assisting with ongoing investigations as authorities work to trace and apprehend other members of the drug trafficking network. The public has been encouraged to report any suspicious activities to support law enforcement efforts.
