Ghana: Police Say Military To Be Deployed For Akwatia By-Election Only If…

The Ghana Police Service has revealed that personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) would be deployed for the Akwatia by-election in the Eastern Region only if necessary.

According to the Police Service,
it is fully prepared to maintain peace and order during the polls on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, working closely with other security agencies to ensure a transparent and credible process.

The Director General of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP Vance Baba Gariba, addressing journalists said the that soldiers will remain on standby and will not be involved unless required.

According to COP Gariba,
“The military will be only on standby. As and when we need them, then we will deploy them, but if we don’t need the military, then we will not request for the deployment of the military. They are only going to be on standby,” appealing to residents to remain calm and turn out in large numbers to cast their votes, assuring them of maximum security.

He says “I want to reassure all the good people of Akwatia that they should come out in their numbers and exercise their franchise. The GPS will continue to reassure of their safety and security during this period.”
