What could have turned into a costly loss ended in relief for a Kumasi-based businessman, thanks to the vigilance of officers from the Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region.
In the early hours of February 14, 2026, officers on duty at the Police Snap Check Point along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway discovered a bag lying by the roadside at about 4:20 a.m. The bag appeared to have fallen from a moving vehicle.
Upon inspection, officers noticed the name “Ofori” and a phone number boldly written on the bag. The patrol team, led by Inspector George Appiah, immediately secured the bag and handed it over to the Bono East Regional Police Command for further checks and verification.
Police later contacted the number on the bag and reached Stephen Ofori, a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown in Kumasi. Ofori confirmed ownership and explained that the cash—amounting to GHC85,000—was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle when it was accidentally misplaced.
In Ofori’s presence, police carefully counted and verified the money before handing over the full amount to him, bringing the matter to a successful close.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has praised the officers involved for their professionalism and integrity, while also acknowledging members of the public who helped draw attention to the abandoned bag—describing the incident as a reminder that honesty and vigilance still thrive on Ghana’s roads.
