Ghana: Police Arrest 5 Suspects and Rescue 57 Nigerians From Cybercrime and Human Trafficking Syndicate

Police in Ghana have arrested five persons for allegedly trafficking 57 Nigerian nationals into Ghana.

In a statement dated Wednesday, October 22, 2025, police identified the suspects as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko.

According to the statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, the suspects were arrested at Adom Estate, Community 25 in Tema.

The statement said they were arrested following an intelligence-led operation conducted by the CID’s Operations Unit.

It says preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects operate a human trafficking network responsible for luring and transporting young men and women from Nigeria to Ghana under the guise of securing them employment and educational opportunities.

It says “upon arrival, the victims, aged between 18 and 26 years, were coerced into engaging in online romance scams and other heinous activities.”

The statement disclosed that “during the operation, the police retrieved 77 assorted laptops, 38 mobile phones, 2 vehicles, three television sets, and other internet-enabled devices suspected of being used in perpetuating the crimes.”
