Ghana Police Arrest 2 Suspects Allegedly Involved In Deadly Homowo Festival Clashes

Police in Ghana have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the deadly Homowo Festival clashes at Omanjor, a suburb of Accra.

The Accra Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, on Monday, September 1, 2025.

According to the statement, the two suspects are Christian Saka Ahianyevi, aged 35, a private security officer, and Newton Allotey, aged 26, a dispatch rider.

Police said Christian was arrested on August 30, while Newton was picked up on August 31, 2025.

According to the statement, they were arrested for involvement in the Omanjor Chief’s palace violence during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Police said the violence resulted in the deaths of three persons and injured several others.

The statement indicated that “During the arrest, 18 spent BB cartridges were retrieved from Newton Allotey, while Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits.”

According to the statement, “all exhibits have been retrieved.”
