The Government of Ghana has directed the country’s Defence Minister as well as National Security Coordinator to investigate soldiers who allegedly assaulted a journalist and a cameraman during a live broadcast, urging that the appropriate punishment should be immediately imposed against the soldiers.

According to the Government in a statement released by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, “appropriate disciplinary and punitive measures must be applied without delay to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.”

As earlier reported, some Ghanaian military personnel assaulted a journalist working with Accra-based Joy News and a civilian during a live broadcast.

The attack on the journalist named Carlos Calony, and a cameraman, took place at a demolition site of a warehouse located along the Spintex Road in Accra. The warehouse is reportedly owned by Ghanaian businessman, Dr. Daniel McKorley otherwise known as McDan.

In the statement dated Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Ghanaian government strongly condemned the actions of the military, describing the assaulted as “utterly unacceptable” to the John Mahama administration and a threat to Ghana’s democratic values.
