The Wa Municipality has been gripped by fear and shock following the brutal killing of a night security guard, identified as Yahya Issa, a man popularly known as “Soja.” The victim was found dead in the early hours of Saturday, September 20, at the Dobile Electoral Area.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Issah Nura Danwana, confirmed the incident, describing it as “disturbing.” The Assembly Member for the Dobile Electoral Area, Zakaria Ibrahim, told the media that when he arrived at the scene, a knife was found on the victim’s chest. He noted that Yahya’s face had been badly smashed, with blood flowing from his forehead, suggesting the attackers used a block to strike him.
The killing has intensified security concerns among residents, who have repeatedly raised issues about crime in the area. The MCE acknowledged that while poor street lighting remains a challenge, the crime scene was located only 400 meters from a police station, prompting further questions about security measures.
The police have since transported the body to the Upper West Regional Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, and investigations are ongoing.
This latest incident has brought back unsettling memories of a similar series of violent attacks that targeted private security guards in the municipality in 2022. Residents are now concerned that the killing may signal a resurgence of such crimes and are urging authorities for stronger security interventions to ensure their safety.
