GHANA: NCA to Meet with MultiChoice Ghana Over Pricing

Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed it has received a formal response from MultiChoice Ghana regarding its notice of intention to suspend the company’s authorization and a request for a review of its pricing model.

The NCA announced that the first meeting of a new Stakeholder Committee will take place on Monday, September 8, 2025. This action follows a public warning by Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who threatened to shut down MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv operations on September 6 if the company failed to engage in discussions on reducing subscription prices.

The minister’s comments came after MultiChoice Ghana publicly rejected claims that it had agreed to a price reduction, even as the government moved to establish a joint committee to decide on possible reductions. In a statement on Friday, September 5, 2025, the pay-TV operator stated that while it remains committed to dialogue, no decision has been made on lowering fees. The NCA’s press release on September 7, 2025, noted that further engagements have since taken place with MultiChoice Ghana.

The Authority outlined three key clarifications:

  1. Multichoice Ghana has agreed to the directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to establish a Stakeholder Committee to evaluate DSTV pricing in Ghana. The company has pledged to fully participate in the process.
  2. The outcome of the committee’s work will be determined at the end of its review.
  3. Multichoice has confirmed its commitment to respect due process, as well as the laws of Ghana and its people.

It assured the public that further updates on the matter will be provided in due course.
