Two suspected armed robbers have beaten to death by a mob in Ghana after they allegedly robbed and killed an Okada (motorbike) rider.

The robbery incident happened at Awutu Mampong in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

According to reports, the suspected robbers hired the services of 19-year-old Kofi Mensah, an SHS graduate and Okada rider, but shot him midway through the journey before fleeing with his motorbike, mobile phone, and an unspecified amount of money.

Reports say the robbers had tied Kofi’s hands with a rope before escaping.

Kofi’s colleagues who discovered his body shortly after the attack, reportedly launched a search in the area, arrested the suspects, and subjected them to severe beatings that led to their instant deaths.

Assemblyman for Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, confirmed the robbery and killings to the media, saying he was concerned about the rising spate of robbery attacks on Okada riders in the area.

He says “Motorbikes are constantly being stolen, sometimes at gunpoint. There are no jobs in this area, and so most of the young boys depend on the okada business for livelihood, but it’s becoming too dangerous. This is an SHS graduate who was trying to make savings towards his university education, and was killed by the robbers.”

The bodies of Kofi and the two suspected robbers have been sent by the Agona Swedru Police to the Police Hospital in Accra.
