Ghana’s electricity transmission operator, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), has commenced tie-in and test run operations to integrate the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant into the national transmission network, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 22, the Ministry said the exercise is part of ongoing power system enhancement works aimed at expanding generation capacity and improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply nationwide.

Power Capacity Boost
Once fully connected, the AKSA Ahwomaso facility is expected to add about 141 megawatts (MW) to Ghana’s power generation mix. Officials say the additional capacity will support electricity supply to homes, businesses and industrial users, with particular benefits for the middle belt and surrounding regions.
The plant forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the national grid and meet growing demand driven by economic activity and population growth.
Possible Temporary Interruptions
The Ministry cautioned that the tie-in and testing process could result in short, temporary power outages in some areas. It explained that such disruptions, if they occur, are a normal part of integrating new generation infrastructure and are necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the transmission system.
GRIDCo, the Ministry said, is taking steps to carefully manage the process to minimise inconvenience to consumers.
Assurance to the Public
Reaffirming its commitment to reliable power supply, the Ministry said the integration of the Ahwomaso plant is being carried out in the national interest, with a focus on long-term energy security and improved service delivery.
It also assured the public that it is working closely with key agencies in the energy sector to maintain stable electricity supply during the Christmas season and beyond, noting that the power system has remained largely stable throughout much of 2025.
The statement was signed by Richmond Rockson, Esq., Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
