The skipper of the Ghana Black Stars, Andre Ayew, has been dropped from his country’s world cup qualifier squad.

Ghana is playing Mali in Bamako on June 6, and subsequently Central African Republic in Kumasi on June 10.

But the Le Havre player who has captained Ghana for several games was left out of the squad by coach Otto Addo.

Ghana is currently fourth on the table with three points and the two matches are very crucial.

Otto Addo who named his 26-man squad on Wednesday at a press conference in Accra, said he had a conversation with Ayew, the FIFA U20 World Cup winner. He did not disclose what exactly he told Ayew or what they discussed.

According to Otto Addo, he “had a long chat with Andre and gave him the reason why he is not in the squad.”

He said: “I talk to players directly and I don’t like to put information out about what we spoke about.”

He added that “This is the decision we took and it’s not like he necessarily agreed, but I still have big respect for him.”
