President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, February 20, 2026, commissioned a state-of-the-art steel production plant by B5PLUS Company Limited at Lɛpleku in the Ningo-Prampram Municipality, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s drive toward industrialization and value addition.
Hailing the facility as a landmark achievement, President Mahama said it represents more than just a production site; it symbolizes Ghana’s determination to build a self-reliant industrial economy and reduce dependence on imported goods. “This plant stands as a testament to what can be achieved when public policy, private investment, and innovation converge for national development,” he remarked.
The President highlighted the anticipated economic benefits of the plant, noting that it would create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate local entrepreneurship, and strengthen linkages in key sectors such as construction, infrastructure, and manufacturing. He emphasized that boosting domestic steel production is critical for sustainable growth, import substitution, and positioning Ghana as a competitive industrial hub in West Africa.
President Mahama also commended B5PLUS Company Limited for its confidence in Ghana’s industrial sector and encouraged other investors to follow suit. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting private-sector-led growth through strategic policies, investment incentives, and partnerships aimed at expanding capacity, improving technology adoption, and fostering innovation across the manufacturing landscape.
In her remarks, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, underscored the strategic importance of the steel industry to Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. She noted that the establishment of the plant aligns with government efforts to promote import substitution, support local industries, and enhance export capacity under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Minister commended B5PLUS for its continued investment in Ghana’s industrial sector, describing the company as a key partner in advancing the country’s manufacturing ambitions. She stressed that strengthening domestic production capacity would not only stimulate job creation but also deepen linkages across critical sectors such as construction, infrastructure, and agribusiness.
She further assured industry players of the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment through policy support, trade facilitation reforms, and strategic partnerships to boost productivity and competitiveness.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Mukesh V. Thakwani, CEO of B5PLUS, expressed his excitement at expanding the company’s operations in Ghana. He highlighted the company’s commitment to using modern technology and sustainable practices to produce high-quality steel locally. “We are proud to contribute to Ghana’s industrialization journey and support the country in becoming self-sufficient in steel production,” Mr. Thakwani said.
Mr. Thakwani further emphasized that the plant would create significant employment opportunities and provide training for local talent, enhancing skills development in the steel and manufacturing sector.
He expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana for its supportive policies and pledged that B5PLUS would continue to invest in innovations that drive growth, create jobs, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a competitive industrial hub in the region.
The commissioning ceremony brought together government officials, traditional authorities, industry stakeholders, and members of the business community, all of whom hailed the new plant as a testament to growing investor confidence in Ghana’s industrial landscape.
The B5PLUS facility is expected to enhance the production and make significant contribution to national development by improving local value addition and supporting Ghana’s long-term industrial growth agenda.
