Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has asked the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to review its recruitment process following the deadly stampede in Accra.
At least six young women died in the stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Five other persons were sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 37 Military Hospital while 12 others were in critical condition at the same health facility.
Addressing his supporters in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital on Thursday, November 13, 2025, as part of his campaign tour, Bawumia says the deadly stampede called for an urgent reforms in the Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
According to him, “I think that the lesson in all of this is for the military to review their recruitment strategy so that we can look at more techniques and technology in the recruitment, so that something like this will not happen again. For those we have lost, may their souls rest in perfect peace.”
