Final Year University Student Found Dead In Hostel Room In Ghana

A final year political science student at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in Ghana has been found dead in his hostel room under heartbreaking circumstances.

The male student, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was found dead on the evening of Tuesday, June 11, after fellow students noticed a strong, unpleasant odor emanating from his locked room.

Reports say the stench raised suspicions, prompting students to investigate — only to make the grim discovery.

Furthermore, reports indicate that the student had been battling a severe leg infection, which caused him significant pain and difficulty walking.

One of the students revealed that the deceased suffered from sickle cell disease, which often left him in fragile health.

“He is a sickler and had sores on his leg, which usually caused unpleasant smells. Due to that, his roommate refused to stay in the same room with him, so he stayed alone,” the student said.

Allegedly abandoned by his roommate, the final-year student was left to care for himself in increasingly dire conditions. In an effort to contain the smell and perhaps avoid further social stigma, he is said to have locked himself inside his room, cutting off any possibility of assistance from others.

It is believed that he may have passed away several days before he was eventually discovered.

The disturbing incident has sparked sadness and concern across the campus, raising serious questions about mental health, student welfare, and communal responsibility.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death are currently ongoing.
