2023 was a good year for Nigerian music as Afrobeats continues to enjoy international success led by the rise of Nigerian superstars.
This was again proven as some Nigerian artists dominated the Best African category at the 2024 MOBO awards nominations list. Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, Adekunle Gold, and Ayra Starr who have had a successful year all earned nominations.
Joining the Nigerian contingent are South African star Tyla, Swaziland hitmaker Uncle Waffles, and Cameroonian-American sensation Libianca.
Other Nigerians nominated include gospel star Limoblaze and hitmaking producer P2J.
Little Simz and Stormzy topped the nominations for the 2024 Mobo Awards, which celebrate Black music in the UK and beyond.
Each of them is up for album of the year with ambitious, heartfelt rap LPs: Stormzy for This Is What Mean, and Little Simz for her surprise-released No Thank You.
Both are nominated in the gendered best artist categories, while Stormzy hasa nod for video of the year and Little Simz is one of 10 nominees for best hip- hop act.
