Activities at various ministries have come to a standstill due to the ongoing industrial action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG).
A visit to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and the Ministry of Works and Housing revealed no activity, with individuals seeking services being turned away.
CLOGSAG began this industrial action on Wednesday, July 3, in response to the government’s failure to implement the new salary structure agreed on with the government in 2022.
In an interaction, security personnel at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said several people have been turned away due to the strike
“We’re on strike so there’s no work done; if they come, we will return you, we have returned a lot of people. A dispatch rider brought in a letter, and we sent the person away. We’re the security personnel, we’re at the post because of the property, one of the officers came but we turned him away.”
In a related development, the strike is beginning to bite hard in the Ashanti region as the industrial action enters its second day.
Although many persons seeking to access the services of the striking workers were stranded on the first day, the leadership of the group in the Ashanti region remained resolute in pushing for their demands.
They have thus been preventing all members from defying their directive as they have been inspecting various offices to ensure no one works, to compel the government to urgently address their concerns.
At the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, for instance, the CLOGSAG executives there said they are present to ensure compliance by their members as they have locked the offices.
In an interview with Citi News, Dickson Frimpong, the CLOGSAG chairman for Asokwa Municipal said, “Our strike is really going on well for us, our members are not here, we are here to ensure that anybody who comes is sacked. They are not defying our orders.”
