A small aircraft crash sent shockwaves through a quiet residential neighborhood in San Diego, California, early Thursday morning, leaving behind scorched vehicles, damaged homes, and a widespread emergency response.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a Cessna 550 jet went down at approximately 3:45 a.m. near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. The aircraft crashed into a suburban area, igniting fires and creating what officials called a “gigantic debris field.”
Local police evacuated three streets as firefighters and emergency crews worked to contain the flames and assess the damage. Television footage from the scene showed multiple burnt-out vehicles and at least one severely damaged home in the low-rise neighborhood.
Speaking to ABC News, the San Diego assistant fire chief described the aftermath as chaotic, with wreckage scattered across multiple yards and streets.
Authorities urged nearby residents to report any jet fuel odors or debris, as safety teams continued to assess the environmental and structural impact of the crash.
No immediate information has been released on casualties or the number of individuals on board the aircraft. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
