The Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF) has officially dismissed national team coach Brama Traore and his entire technical staff. The decision comes in the wake of the Stallions’ elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The federation cited a significant failure to meet the pre-tournament objectives as the primary reason for the overhaul.
Falling Short of the ‘Big Four’ Target
Before the commencement of the tournament in Morocco, the FBF had set a clear mandate for Traore: secure a spot in the semi-finals. However, Burkina Faso’s journey ended abruptly in the Round of 16 following a heavy 3-0 defeat to the defending champions, Ivory Coast.
In a statement released by the federation, the results were described as “falling far short of the objectives set for the national team.”
Official Reaction: ‘Deep Disappointment’
FBF Chairman Oumarou Sawadogo emphasized that the decision reflected the collective frustration of the nation’s footballing community.
“This poor performance has caused deep disappointment among supporters, stakeholders in national football, and governing bodies,” Sawadogo stated.
Traore’s Tenure
Brama Traore was appointed to lead the Stallions with the hope of building on the country’s recent continental successes. While the team showed flashes of potential during the group stages, the clinical nature of their knockout loss to the Elephants proved to be the final straw for the governing body.
The search for a successor is expected to begin immediately as Burkina Faso looks to rebuild ahead of the next cycle of international fixtures and the newly announced African Nations League set for 2029.
