Black Sherif Shares Emotional Manifesto Ahead of 2026 Debut

In a move that highlights his growing reputation as one of Africa’s most introspective lyricists, Ghanaian superstar Black Sherif has confirmed the release of his first project of 2026 through a lengthy, intimate letter to his fans. Shared via his Substack, the statement serves as both a reflection on his meteoric rise and a manifesto for the year ahead.

The Substack Letter: A Look Back at the “Stab Wounds”

Writing to his global audience, the “Kweku The Traveller” hitmaker took a raw look back at the “hurdles and sleepless nights” that defined his early career. He revealed the emotional weight of being told as a 17-year-old that his voice “wasn’t good enough”—a stark contrast to his current status as an artist who sells out back-to-back nights in London and hosts over 20,000 people in stadium settings.

“Nothing was handed to us,” Sherif wrote. “We worked late nights into early mornings… It took time to realize these stab wounds had to happen for us to realize how great we were to become.”

Personal Trials and Legal Victories

The letter offered a rare glimpse into the artist’s private life, detailing the mental fortitude required to survive the pressures of the music industry. Sherif specifically touched on the closure of a long-standing legal case, an event he noted brought his mother to tears of relief.

“No one in their right minds would still be here,” he admitted, referring to the combined pressure of legal battles and the public eye.

He also paid tribute to his long-term collaborator, Obala, recalling the days when they worked on music using cracked phone screens, long before the fame and high-end cameras arrived. Sherif described the simple joys that keep him grounded, such as mornings spent on the balcony of his first property and late-night drives taken “just to feel human again.”

“Top of the Morning” Release Details

Fans will not have to wait long for the first chapter of Sherif’s 2026 era. The superstar confirmed that his new single and its accompanying music video are set to drop this Friday at 5:57 AM.

The specific timing, which he referred to as the “Top of the Morning,” appears to be a deliberate choice reflecting the early-morning sessions that birthed his career. As the first release of the year, the project is expected to set a high bar for the Ghanaian music scene and further solidify his position as a leading voice in the Afrobeats and Highlife genres.
