The 10th edition of the Batalo Dance Festival is scheduled to take place this Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Batalo East Creative Center in Bufujja-Kachonga Town Council, Butaleja District. This year’s festival promises to be an exciting celebration of cultural unity, with a theme of “Cultural Presentation (Traditional Meets Urban)”.
The festival, which has been running since 2013, brings together young performers from diverse backgrounds to showcase a dynamic blend of traditional, contemporary, and urban dances. Last year’s edition featured over 102 artists from Tanzania, Jinja, Kampala, Mbale, and local talents, and was attended by over 3,500 audience members.
This year’s festival will feature performances from Rwanda, Kaberamaido District in Uganda, Kampala District, Jinja District, and local musicians in Butaleja District. According to Rachael Nakato, Communications and Media Manager at Batalo East, the festival plays a crucial role in nurturing and empowering the youth locally and internationally.
