American President, Donald Trump, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, have failed to reach a deal on ending the war in Ukraine.

After three hours of meeting in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday, August 15, 2025, President Trump says “There’s no deal until there’s a deal.”

But the two powerful world leaders said some progress has been made towards finding peace in Ukraine.

Productive Meeting

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with Putin held in the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Trump says “We had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to.”

According to the US President, “There are just a very few that are left. Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant, but we have a very good chance of getting there. We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.”

In an interview immediately after the summit, Fox News’ Sean Hannity probed President Trump about territorial concessions that would give Russia land it didn’t previously have and about potential US security assurances for Ukraine.

The US leader responded: “Well, I think those are points that we negotiated, and those are points that we largely have agreed on,” adding that Ukraine “has to agree to it.”

On what his advice for Ukrainian President, Zelensky, was, President Trump responded: “Gotta make a deal.”

Moscow Meeting

At the end of their peace talks in Alaska, President Putin extended an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow for their next round of talks, saying “next time in Ukraine.” Trump expressed interest in honoring the invitation but says “I will get a little heat on that one but I can see it possibly happening.”

Putin’s Gesture

Upon his arrival at the airport in Anchorage, a journalist asked: “President Putin will you stop killing civilians?”

The Russian President who had a handshake with Trump at the Airport gestured as though he didn’t hear the question from the journalist.
