New home grown security alliances and coorporations against terrorists in the shadow of the AES model are unveiling in Africa.
Most recently we saw Togo and Nigeria weaving security alliances with the AES. Earlier we saw the AES-Ghana cooperation, the AES-Chad alliance and that of the quiet AES-Mauritania and Morocco cooperations. The Libyan Benghazi-Chad-AES alliance too is quietly unveiling. And they all seems to be yielding groundbreaking results. Yes, it’s proving true that ‘local solutions to local problems’ are more effective and sustainable.
However, on the sideline we are also seeing the unveiling of some foreign oriented security architectures, and one would tend to ask why? There we are seeing the proposed ‘ECOWAS-UN-AU Compact for Peace and Resilience in the Sahel’ coined on the sideline of the just concluded (19 Nov 2025) UN Security Council meets in the US followed this week (24-25 Nov 2025) by the AU-EU Summit for ‘Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism’ in Luanda Angola.
It’s a well-wish hope that African leaders in all these are able to synthesise well the geopolitical chess games so they can act sensibly not to further plunge the continent into deeper violent crisis.
Africa must wake up and be smarter to avoid the many imperialist geopolitical trappings.
