Marrakesh, Morocco – The 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards took place on Monday night, celebrating the outstanding achievements of African football’s best talents. The prestigious event, held in the vibrant city of Marrakesh, Morocco, saw Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman take centre stage as he was crowned the CAF Men’s Footballer of the Year.
Lookman’s remarkable performances throughout the year earned him this esteemed recognition, succeeding his compatriot and teammate Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian star was joined by other winners, including Zambia’s Barbra Banda, who secured the CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year Award.
The awards ceremony recognized excellence across various categories, with winners including Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns/RSA) as Club Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, and Lamine Camara (SEN) as Young Player of the Year. Emerse Fae (CIV) was named Coach of the Year, while Ivory Coast took home the National Team of the Year award.
In the women’s categories, Sanaa Mssoudy (FAR Rabat/MAR) was named Club Player of the Year, while Chiamaka Nnadozie (NGR) took home the Goalkeeper of the Year award. Doha El Madani (MAR) was recognized as the Young Player of the Year, and Lamia Boumehdi (TP Mazembe/COD) was named Coach of the Year. Nigeria’s Super Falcons won the National Team of the Year award for the second time in a row.
The 2024 CAF Awards also saw the announcement of the Best XI teams for both men and women. The men’s team included players such as Andre Onana (CMR), Achraf Hakimi (MAR), and Mohamed Salah (EGY), while the women’s team featured players like Andile Dlamini (RSA), Michelle Alozie (NGR), and Asisat Oshoala (NGR).
The ceremony was a celebration of African football’s finest talents, and the winners will be remembered as the best of the best in 2024.
