Acclaimed actress and casting director Nolwazi Shange made a court appearance this week at the Brixton Magistrates’ Court in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation involving high-profile casting and production companies.
The case, which has drawn considerable public interest, centres on charges filed against Shange—who previously appeared in court in March 2024—related to her former employment with Rhythm World Production. She is facing multiple charges including cyber forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft.
According to the prosecution, Shange was responsible for recruiting talent for various productions under Rhythm World, Masakhane Casting, and Make Your Art (Pty) Ltd. It is alleged that instead of remitting fees paid to her for these services, she misappropriated the funds for personal use.
The charges were laid following a formal complaint from the producers of the Queen Modjadji production, who accused Shange of stealing R700,000. This prompted a wider investigation into her dealings across the industry.
Shange, who was granted bail of R5,000, had her case postponed to September 26, 2025, to allow for further investigations.
A SAFTA award-winning actress, Nolwazi Shange is best known for her role as Mbali on Scandal! and more recently as Nandi in Showmax’s Outlaws.
