Paris Saint-Germain and Moroccan international defender Achraf Hakimi could face a criminal trial and up to 15 years in prison following a formal indictment request by the Nanterre prosecutor’s office on August 1, 2025, over rape allegations from February 2023. The accusations stem from a complaint by a 24-year-old woman who alleged sexual assault at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt after meeting through Instagram.
Hakimi, 26, has consistently denied the allegations, claiming they are a financially motivated attempt at blackmail. His legal team, led by Fanny Colin, called the prosecution’s request “incomprehensible and senseless” given the case evidence, expressing confidence in challenging the indictment. In a January 2025 interview, Hakimi stated, “When you’re successful, you become an easy target… They wanted to blackmail me, which is why we filed a complaint.”
The prosecution believes there is sufficient evidence for a trial, supported by the complainant’s account and messages reflecting her distress. The investigating magistrate will now decide whether to uphold or dismiss the indictment. Paris Saint-Germain has supported Hakimi, citing trust in the judicial process and attributing his training absences to “personal reasons.” The club has not issued an updated statement on this latest development.
As a key player for PSG and Morocco, notably during the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final run, Hakimi’s career and reputation hang in the balance as the legal process unfolds.
