Some 8.7 million Ivorians have turned out to vote in their country’s presidential election on Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has said.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page awhile ago, ECOWAS says the elections in Côte d’Ivoire marked “a crucial moment in the nation’s democratic life.”

The election will determine the country’s leadership for the next five years.

The poll features five candidates approved by the Constitutional Council: outgoing President Alassane Ouattara, Simone Éhivet Gbagbo, Jean-Louis Billon, Ahoua Don Mello, and Mrs. Henriette Lagou Adjoua. Voters will cast their ballots in the first of two possible rounds in this francophone West African nation.
To monitor the process, a high-level Joint ECOWAS–African Union delegation, led by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, visited polling centers in the Abidjan municipalities of Cocody, Abobo, and Koumassi. The mission, which includes Mr. Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, and Ambassador Fanta Cissé, observed the opening of voting operations and assessed the early conduct of the polls.

The participation of 8.7 million eligible voters underscores the significance of this election, as Ivorians decide who will lead the country into its next political chapter.
