In a recent interview with Larry Madowo on ‘CNN African Voices,’ Nigerian music star Yemi Alade shared a fascinating and unexpected chapter of her career. Alade revealed that she mysteriously lost her voice upon arriving in Los Angeles to collaborate with global music icon Beyoncé.
According to Alade, she had visited the studio a day before her scheduled recording session to familiarize herself with the team and environment. However, to her shock, she woke up the following morning unable to speak. Despite being able to hear her thoughts clearly, she was unable to vocalize them, forcing her to communicate through written notes.
Determined not to let the situation derail her plans, Alade turned to a mix of warm water, Vitamin C, ginger, and teas to recover. Her efforts paid off, and she managed to regain partial use of her voice just in time to record two songs for Beyoncé’s album.
In a lighthearted moment during the interview, Alade jokingly suggested that her mysterious ailment might have been the work of “village people” – a humorous Nigerian term often used to refer to perceived supernatural or inexplicable occurrences. She expressed gratitude for overcoming the ordeal, humorously declaring that any sabotage attempts had ultimately failed.
Alade’s remarkable story is a testament to her determination and resilience in the face of adversity. Despite the unexpected setback, she was able to overcome her challenges and deliver a memorable performance.
