Two US National Guard members have allegedly been shot dead near the White House. The shooting incident on Wednesday night has forced the White House into a lockdown.
Multiple US media reports say a suspect is in custody.
The suspect was also shot and has injuries that are said not to be life-threatening, a report by the Associated Press revealed.
Agents from the US Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on scene.
White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, says “The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation. The President has been briefed.”
