Zambia’s Electoral Commission To Start Voter Registration In October

Ahead of Zambia’s 2026 general elections, the East African nation’s Electoral Commission (EC) will begin voter registration exercise on October 13, 2025.

The registration exercise is targeting 3.5 million new voters.

Mwangala Zaloumis, the chairperson of Zambia’s Electoral Commission, announced that the registration drive would run across all 156 constituencies until November 11 this year.

According to Zaloumis, the exercise would accommodate new registrations, card replacements and voter transfers.

He announced that citizens who registered in 2020 or during the continuous registration process remain eligible and do not need to re-register.

Online pre-registration is set to open on 15 September to ease congestion during the physical registration period.

The 2026 elections are expected to be a pivotal moment in Zambia’s democratic trajectory, with increased youth participation and electoral reforms shaping the political landscape.

Following the registration window, ECZ would compile a provisional voters’ roll and handle objections and appeals between December 2025 and February 2026.
