A 17-YEAR-OLD Zambian girl of Lusangazi District is battling for her life in Petauke District Hospital after she aborted a four-months-old pregnancy, and trashed the fetus in a pit latrine.
The named perpetrator flushed out her unborn child on Friday, September 12, at about 07:00 hours in Petauke District.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba shares with TV Yatu that, the teenager, “Committed an offence of abórtion using a named drug according to the medical personnel, and disposed off the fetal remains in a Pit latrine.”
Section Chairman, John Nkhoma, 51, reported the matter to the Police and swiftly, Police responded and found that the fétal remains had been retrieved from the pit latrine.
“The recovered fétal remains along with [the perpetrator] were taken to Petauke District Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Medical examination on [the perpetrator] was conducted [yesterday] 13th September, 2025 confirmed that she had an induced abórtion,” Mweemba shares.
He says the offender has been admitted to the hospital for further medical attention while the fetal remains have been disposed off by medical officers.
