The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) has disclosed that it played a major role in a joint security operation that cleared illegal miners from Kikonge Gold Mine in Zambia’s Mufumbwe District.
According to ZAF, the clearing of the illegal miners has paved the way for the return of lawful mining activities.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, ZAF revealed that it provided critical aerial reconnaissance and combat support to Zambia Army Special Forces, significantly boosting the effectiveness of the operation.

The statement says the deployment of air assets enabled rapid troop insertion, close monitoring of movements on the ground, deterrence of resistance, and overall operational control during the exercise.

ZAF says the operation brought together multiple security agencies, including the Zambia Army, Drug Enforcement Commission, Immigration Department and others, reflecting strong inter-agency cooperation aimed at restoring state authority in the mining area.
