Spanish coach, Xabi Alonso, has signed a contract with Real Madrid to serve as the new head coach of the club.
His contract with Real Madrid will remain valid until June 2028.
The signing took place on Monday, May 26, 2025, after Madrid announced him on Sunday, May 25 as its new coach.
Xabi takes over from Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who is joining the Brazilian national team as its new head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ancelotti was in charge of his final match as Real Madrid coach at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, May 24, 2025 when Los Blancos hosted Real Sociedad.
Xabi, a Madrid legend, returns to Spain after guarding Bayer Leverkusen to the German Bundesliga title in the 2023/2024 season.
A prolific midfielder, Alonso joined Madrid in August 2009, winning LaLiga and two Copas del Rey, before winning a Champions League medal — coached by Ancelotti — in 2014.
