Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid has reached another historic milestone as his fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos,” has officially surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
Originally released in October 2020, the album has enjoyed massive global success, propelled by standout singles like “Essence” featuring Tems, which alone has amassed over 400 million streams and is widely credited with helping introduce Afrobeats to a global mainstream audience.
“Made in Lagos” showcases a seamless blend of Afrobeats, Pop, and R&B, featuring collaborations with heavyweights like Burna Boy, H.E.R., Justin Bieber, and Tems. The deluxe edition, which included Bieber’s remix of “Essence,” further boosted the album’s global reach.
The critically acclaimed project has earned Wizkid numerous awards, nominations, and platinum certifications, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s most influential music exports.
With this streaming milestone, Wizkid joins an elite league of Nigerian artists—Burna Boy, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay—whose albums have crossed the billion-stream mark on Spotify.
Wizkid has continued to expand his discography with projects like “More Love, Less Ego,” the “Soundman Vol. 2” EP, and most recently, his sixth studio album, “Morayo.”
This achievement not only affirms Wizkid’s global influence but also highlights the increasing demand for Afrobeats in the global music market.
