LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Vivian Wilson, the 21-year-old transgender daughter of tech mogul Elon Musk, says she is not a wealthy person despite her father’s immense fortune. In a recent interview with The Cut, Wilson clarified that she is “broke” and lives with three roommates, a choice she made because it’s “cheaper.”
“People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal,” Wilson stated. While she acknowledged her mother’s wealth, she described her father’s fortune as “unimaginable degrees of wealthy.”
Wilson, an aspiring model, said she has no desire to be super-rich. “I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter, and some expendable income, which is nice and much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”
Wilson famously cut ties with her father in 2022 when she filed a petition to change her gender and name. Since then, she has publicly criticized Musk on social media, calling him a “pathetic man-child” who has not been accepting of her gender identity. In past interviews, Musk has claimed that Wilson was “killed by the woke mind virus” and that he was “tricked” into letting her transition at age 16.
Embracing the public fallout, Wilson told the magazine that the most stereotypical thing about her was “Daddy issues.” She also spoke about her privileged upbringing, noting she attended a “private high school filled with nepo babies,” including Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, Apple.
Wilson admitted to dropping out of college in both Canada and Japan, citing AI as the reason for her lost “motivation.” Despite her struggles with fame, she has landed an agent and a Teen Vogue cover, and she accepts that her newfound fame “makes me money.”
