Vitor Pereira Appointed Nottingham Forest Boss Following Sean Dyche Sacking

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new head coach, moving swiftly to replace Sean Dyche. The decision to part ways with Dyche comes less than four months into his tenure at the City Ground, as the club continues its turbulent battle to remain in the Premier League.

The Exit of Sean Dyche

The dismissal of the 54-year-old followed a frustrating 0–0 draw against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday. The result intensified fears of relegation, with Forest winning just three of their last 13 matches across all competitions.

Dyche was appointed in October 2025 to succeed Ange Postecoglou, with the club then sitting in 18th place. Despite his reputation as a survival specialist, he becomes the third manager to be dismissed by Forest this season, following Nuno Espírito Santo and Postecoglou.

Vitor Pereira: A Return to the Premier League

Vitor Pereira emerges as the choice to stabilize a season defined by managerial churn. The Portuguese tactician is no stranger to the English top flight, having previously managed Wolves.

  • Wolves Tenure: Appointed in December 2024, he successfully guided Wolves to safety during a difficult campaign.
  • The Downfall: He was dismissed in November 2025 following a dismal run of 10 consecutive league matches without a victory.
  • Successor Impact: By April 2026, the foundation he left saw Wolves move 12 points clear of the drop zone, though his own winless streak remained a sticking point for his critics.

The Immediate Challenge: Fenerbahçe and Relegation

Pereira faces a high-pressure start to his time in Nottingham. His first test will be on the European stage, as Forest travel to Türkiye for a Europa League play-off first-leg tie against Fenerbahçe next Thursday.

While the European campaign provides a distraction, the club’s priority remains domestic survival. Forest currently sit in 16th place, only three points clear of 18th-placed West Ham United. With little margin for error, Pereira is tasked with protecting the top-flight status the club fought 23 years to reclaim.

Managerial Timeline: Forest’s 2025/26 Season

  1. Nuno Espírito Santo: Started the season.
  2. Ange Postecoglou: Dismissed in October 2025.
  3. Sean Dyche: October 2025 – February 2026.
  4. Vitor Pereira: Appointed February 11, 2026.

Before settling on Dyche in October, the Forest board reportedly explored high-profile options including Roberto Mancini and Fulham’s Marco Silva, signaling the club’s ambition—and perhaps their lack of a singular long-term vision.
