Super Eagles forward player, Victor Osimhen took his goal tally for the national team to 23 which is the same number of goals that Segum Odegbami scored while he was playing football.
This record took Victor Osimhen to second on the list of Nigerians with the highest number of goals for the Super Eagles. The Galatasaray player achieved this feat during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Benin Republic on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire.
The game ended 1-1 between both sides, this result ensured that the Super Eagles secured their spot as Group D winners with 11 points, having sealed their qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco without kicking a ball.
Osimhen is edging closer to becoming the highest goal scorer in the history of Nigeria’s men’s national team with Rashidi Yekini being the only person ahead of him.
Osimhen will be hoping to outrightly overtake Odegbami in the second spot when Nigeria hosts Rwanda next week in the final game of the AFCON 2025 qualifier.
