The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MOCD) in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC)have completed the
much-anticipated modern community ICT center in Suhum in the Eastern Region and was inaugurated on 30th October, 2023.
The facility is component of GIFEC’s Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project, which aims to provide telecommunication services to underserved communities.
The ICT center serves not only the students in the community but also the broader population. As per the Minister’s statement, Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) will coordinate with multiple network providers to distribute mobile phones and provide essential digital skills training.
Hon. Ursula Owusu expressed her satisfaction with the party’s completion of the project started by Ex-President Kufour.
She emphasised “ The aim of this community ICT center is to assist anyone facing difficulties in comprehending the functioning of their laptops or mobile phones. Emphasizing the significance of digital skills, we are committed to extending network connectivity to communities that currently lack it.
She also highlighted the achievements of the current government (NPP) in relation to the Rural Telephony project in Ghana.
“Compared to the NDC government who built 78 site within 8 years of government, we (the New Patriotic Party) have constructed almost 2000 within 7 years. We assure Ghanaians that by the end of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure in 2024, we would exceed the 2000 hopefully” she said.
The ICT center is to be managed by a local body known as the Sustainability Management Committee on behalf of GIFEC.
The event brought together diverse participants including the Regional Minister, some members from the MOCD and GIFEC, the traditional council, the media as well as members of the Suhum community .
