United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that external interference is seriously undermining efforts to achieve peace in Sudan.
Speaking on the sidelines of an ASEAN summit in Malaysia on Monday, Guterres urged the international community to take a stronger stance against the continued supply of weapons to factions involved in the Sudanese conflict.
“Countries must stop sending arms to the parties engaged in this war,” Guterres said, emphasizing that foreign involvement is fueling violence and complicating mediation efforts aimed at ending the crisis.
Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating civil conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), displacing millions and creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian emergencies.
