UK Tightens Security, Expands Airspace Restrictions Ahead of Tinubu’s Historic Windsor Castle Visit

Security in the United Kingdom will be significantly heightened next week as King Charles prepares to host Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle.

The high-profile state visit, scheduled for March 18–19, marks one of the most significant diplomatic engagements to be hosted by the British monarchy this year.

Authorities say strict security measures will be enforced across Windsor during the visit.

A statement from Thames Valley Police says temporary restrictions will be placed on airspace above the town, while certain roads and areas around the royal residence will also be subject to tighter controls to ensure the safety of the visiting dignitaries and the public.

A permanent airspace restriction already exists around Windsor Castle, but the exclusion zone will be extended on March 18 from 7:00 to 23:59 GMT as part of enhanced security arrangements coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority.

Adrian Hall, chief superintendent of Thames Valley Police’s joint operations unit, said the airspace restriction forms only part of a wider security operation.

“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation for the state visit of Nigerian President Tinubu next week, with many measures you will see and others you will not,” he said.
