Police in Uganda have arrested two women for allegedly kissing in public.
The women are both in their 20s. They were arrested.
after neighbours reported seeing them kiss outside, an act criminalised under Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Ugandan police indicated that the women had been taken into custody on Wednesday February 18, 2026 in Arua, a city in north-western Uganda.
According to the statement, neighbours had photographed them before alerting police.
Uganda’s law imposes severe penalties, including life imprisonment, for same-sex relations and the death sentence for what are described as “aggravated” cases.
