Uganda’s National Unity Platform (NUP) President and 2026 presidential flag bearer, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), has accused the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of deliberately frustrating his presidential nomination process by rejecting endorsement signatures from multiple districts.

In a strongly worded statement, Kyagulanyi said the IEC is claiming that NUP did not submit enough valid signatures from at least 36 districts, despite the party having collected and submitted well over the required threshold.

“In the most partisan manner, the Electoral Commission is indicating that we haven’t submitted enough signatures for my nomination as President from the districts listed. This is after submitting more than enough signatures per district! The same Commission is shamelessly indicating that Museveni submitted more than enough signatures,” Kyagulanyi said.

Allegations of Intimidation

The NUP leader further alleged that GISOs, DISOs, RDCs, and other state operatives have been intimidating Ugandans who endorsed his candidacy. According to him, those who signed his forms were later coerced into denying their signatures when contacted by the IEC, leading to their names being struck off.

“Criminals! Shamelessly, these regime operatives have been calling our supporters and threatening them. Then the EC says it called them and they denied having signed for us, therefore removing them from the list,” Kyagulanyi charged.

Call to Action

With his nomination set for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the IEC headquarters currently under construction at Lweza, Kyagulanyi has called on supporters from the affected districts to rush to NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule to re-submit their signatures.

He directed all registered voters whose National IDs reflect them as voters from the affected districts to report to Kavule tomorrow between 8:00am and 11:00am.

Districts Affected

The IEC reportedly rejected signatures from the following districts:

Alebtong, Amuru, Bukwo, Bushenyi, Dokolo, Gulu City, Gomba, Iganga, Kakumiro, Kamwenge, Moyo, Nakapiripirit, Ntungamo, Pader, Rubanda, Rubirizi, Rwampara, Shema, Sironko, Soroti District, Soroti City, Terego, Yumbe, Arua, Agago, Amolatar, Kanungu, Kapchorwa, Kitagwenda, Koboko, Kumi, Lamwo, Lira, Mbarara, Omoro, and Pallisa.
