Tyla’s self titled debut album achieves gold certification in the US

Tyla’s critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album “Tyla” has gone gold in the US after it sold over 500,000 units in the North American country.

 

Mzansi’s golden girl took to X to share the exciting news with her followers: “MY ALBUM WENT GOLDDDDDD,” she wrote.

 

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter dropped her debut album in March 2024, and it has since dominated the charts, with her single “Water” going viral, and “Jump,” featuring American rapper Gunna and Jamaican musician Skillibeng following.

 

The music video for “Jump” was shot in Johannesburg and achieved impressive numbers on YouTube, reaching 2 million views in just two days. “Art” and “Truth or Dare” are also fan favourites.

 

“Tyla” earned nominations for Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, Newcomer of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year at the 30th annual SAMAs (South African Music Awards), set to air on November 2, 2024.

 

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a Gold record is a song or album that sells 500,000 units (records, tapes, and compact discs).

 

Platinum is awarded for sales of more than one million units, and Diamond for 10 million or more albums or singles sold.

 

Tyla also broke global boundaries when her debut album which was certified platinum in Brazil in September. Her debut album also secured her a Grammy Award this year.

 

The global star released a deluxe version of her self-titled debut album, “Tyla+” this past Friday.

 

The expanded edition features three new tracks: “Shake Ah,” featuring Tony Duardo, Optimist, and Maestro, “Push 2 Start,” and “Back To You.”

 

Meanwhile, she is set to return to South Africa for a tour in December with dates for Pretoria and Cape Town.
