Kenyan authorities have confirmed that a light aircraft carrying twelve people has crashed in the Tsimba Golini area of Kwale County. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) reported that the plane, registered as 5Y-CCA, was flying from Diani to Kichwa Tembo when it went down early Tuesday morning.
The aircraft, operated by Mombasa Air Safari, lost contact shortly after takeoff before crashing in the hilly region of Kwale. Emergency response teams, including aviation investigators, police, and local rescue services, quickly arrived at the site to begin recovery operations and determine the cause of the crash.
Preliminary reports indicate that there may be no survivors, though authorities are yet to issue an official confirmation. The wreckage has been secured as investigators examine possible contributing factors such as weather conditions, terrain challenges, and mechanical failure.
Officials have not yet released the identities or nationalities of the passengers and crew on board. The government has urged patience as investigations continue and assured that updates will be provided once full details are verified.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of domestic light aircraft operations in Kenya’s tourism corridors, which frequently connect coastal destinations to safari lodges across the country.
